Even during monsoon season the SaddleBrooke Men’s and Ladies’ Niners manage to make a great day of golf and fun! Every year the two groups come together for their annual Niners Unite Tournament and this year had a great turnout! After a record-breaking string of 100 degree days, as well as the first monsoon of the season, we had a nice, fairly cool day for our tournament. The great weather, combined with a truly fun day of play and camaraderie and a terrific luncheon, made for a picture-perfect day.
Charlotte James and her committee matched up players by handicap for a scramble format on the SaddleBrooke Course. The spirited play was followed by a delicious chicken fajita luncheon in the Agave Lounge, complete with a mouth-watering cherry cobbler served by our outstanding Food and Beverage staff. Lunch was followed by the presentation of awards by our Assistant Pro Troy Jewkes to the top four teams. In first place were David James, Mary Crooks, Regina Pang and David Kelsey; second place went to Brenda Wilson, Verne Boynes, Lois Kelly and John Thomas; third place was won by Steve Pomeroy, Mary Jo Swartzberg, Ray Wisniewski and Shirley Miller and fourth place went to Mark Vanderjagt, Carol Thompson, Char Crossman and Jay Casey. Big congratulations to all!
Our next big event coming up is our annual LAGOS event. This is a tournament where the Lady Niners and the SBWGA-18 ladies team up for a round of golf. The event is hosted this year by the Lady Niners on September 26 where we celebrate Life in the Brooke. This is always a wonderful event which we all look forward to!
