Kay Sullivan
Our outreach to the Mammoth-San Manuel PreK-12 school resulted in us helping with the cost of a field trip to the Desert Museum for the 9th grade Physical Science students in September. The assistant principal, Amber Walden, shared with us that she wanted programs to inspire the high school students toward higher education in science—college versus trade schools. Mrs. Walden is interested in having knowledgeable science folks come to the school and do presentations for the high school students. She also hopes that some might be willing to share their career paths to inspire the students. If you wish to do a presentation or know someone we can recruit, please contact Kay Sullivan at sullivan6601@gmail.com.
The April Nature Club presentation will be on April 14 at 3:30 p.m. in the MountainView Ballroom West (SaddleBrooke TWO). Please note the new time and new location. Jeff Babson will tell us about “The Wonderful World of Bats.” Later in the summer, we will have a field trip to see local Tucson bats when they are the most active.
The club-sponsored, members-only spring picnic will be on Thursday, April 24, in Catalina State Park. It will be catered by Bubb’s Grub. One of the activities will be a guided 30-minute nature walk by one of the park rangers after lunch.
Our May program is the last of the season. Katie Preedick from the Desert Museum will give a presentation all about bees on May 12 at 3:30 p.m. in the MountainView Ballroom West (SaddleBrooke TWO). Again, please note the new time and location.
The Program Committee is also looking into a summer field trip for members, which could be a Cowboy Cookoff at Tanque Verde Ranch.
If you are interested in becoming a member, please look for a membership form and information on the homepage of our website saddlebrookenatureclub.org. The cost is only $10 per person. All are welcome to our presentations, with the hope you will join the SaddleBrooke Nature Club to learn more about the local flora, fauna, climate, water, and all nature-related topics surrounding us.
