Summer rains bring overgrowth of grasses and shrubs on the Arizona National Scenic Trail. Eighteen members of the SaddleBrooke Hiking Club joined Zach MacDonald, Assistant Trail Director of the Arizona Trail, for three hours of improving the tread of the Arizona Trail at the northern end of Oracle State Park. Ray Peale, co-steward of the Oracle Passage, assisted Zach in organizing the trail work.
Volunteers enjoyed making significant improvement to a section of the Arizona Trail. Newcomers to working on the Arizona Trail were Sue Frederickson, Anita Lohman, Jim Steger, Ken Larsen, Liz McCutcheon and Linda Eglin. Treats and beverages were provided by Norm Rechkemmer, Liz McCutcheon, Elisabeth Wheeler, Bill Brown and Jim Steger.
The next SaddleBrooke Club work session on the Arizona Trail will be Wednesday, November 14, departing SaddleBrooke at 7:20 a.m. It’s fun to join the camaraderie of working side-by-side in the natural beauty of the upland desert of Oracle State Park.
