Kay Tornay
Scott Madlick and Catherine Jones of Ronald McDonald House (RMH) attended the SaddleBrooke HOA 2 Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. The purpose of their visit was to present an award to the entire SaddleBrooke Community for donating over one million pop tabs to the RMH! General Manager Damon Williams and HOA 2 residents Rich and Kay Tornay accepted this award on behalf of the SaddleBrooke Community.
The money raised from recycling these pop tabs supports the RMH of Tucson. The RMH is a “home away from home” for families of children undergoing medical treatment for life-threatening conditions.
Rich and I have been collecting these Pop Tabs since November 2007. We took our first bunch of pop tabs down to the RMH in January 2008—48 pounds. Each pound is worth $.45 to $.60. It takes 1,267 pop tabs to make a pound. Over $25,000 has been raised through the pop tab recycling since 2011. We take approximately 45 pounds down to RMH every three to four months.
Our SaddleBrooke Community should be very proud of their accomplishment. I will never forget the comment made by a resident sitting in the MountainView Library when I was picking up the pop tabs. He asked what I was doing. I told him and he said where else could you give something so easily, not cost you anything and still give you back so much pleasure in knowing that you were helping someone. This is not an exact quote, but it is close and so true.
The pop tabs may be from soda/beer cans, vegetable/soup/fruit cans and pet food cans. Any aluminum pop tab will work. Remember, it is not just beer cans! Collection sites are at the Cholla Library in the MountainView Clubhouse, outside the door of the DesertView Library, SaddleBrooke Community Outreach office located in the shopping center, the Pro Shop in SaddleBrooke One, the Maintenance Room at the baseball field and at my front door at 63680 E. Holiday Drive in the Villas, HOA 2.

Thank you for all your support in this very important project. We have already started on our next million!
