SaddleBrooke Cold War Symposium – July 12 and Aug. 9

Mark Schwartz

The SaddleBrooke Cold War Symposium Summer Video Festival will be held July 12 and August 9, the second Thursday each month in MountainView’s Sonoran Room from 1:00-3:30 p.m.

The SaddleBrooke Cold War Symposium explores the decades we grew up in, exciting and sometimes threatening times. We experienced America as an unquestioned world power, great changes in our society and the fear of all-consuming war. Every social, economic and political element is fair game for our symposium speakers and most all of them are SaddleBrooke residents. Join us for fascinating presentations and seminars and share your experiences from that time of wonder and dread.

Our summer season features Cold War humor films to make you laugh out loud!

•July 12: The Mouse That Roared

Peter Sellers and Jean Seberg lead in a comedy about an impoverished backward nation that declares a war on America, hoping to lose…but things don’t go according to plan. Sellers plays three roles in a rollicking tale of political absurdity.

•August 9: Dr. Strangelove

Peter Sellers, Sterling Hayden, George C. Scott, Slim Pickens, James Earl Jones and Keenan Wynn. In this cult classic, an insane general triggers a path to nuclear holocaust that politicians and generals frantically try to stop. Sellers plays the President, a British air officer and the notorious Dr. Strangelove in this dark satire about nuclear war.

Join us for a good time and beat the summer heat for an afternoon.
