The PrimeTime Players presents Calendar Girls, based on the 2003 film starring Helen Mirren and the true story of a group of ordinary yet extraordinary women, members of a traditional English Women’s Club, who persuade one another to pose nude for a charity calendar. Puzzling their spouses and mortifying their fellow club members, the girls start a media and fundraising phenomenon they could not have imagined. Their Calendar was released officially in 1999 selling out in a week. Word spread quickly and the international press soon jumped on the story. Just nine months after its launch, the calendar had sold 88,000 copies and went on to raise over £3 million for Lymphoma/Leukemia research. The story has many layers and themes including a confirmation that during the later stages of life, women can have as much fun and be as relevant as women of a younger age. Calendar Girls is funny, sad, heartwarming and inspirational and when the curtain comes down, you feel you’ve found and lost a group of close friends.
