Cooler weather and the return of snowbirds mean one thing—pickleball season is in full swing! The SaddleBrooke Pickleball Association (SPA) courts are buzzing again, and there’s plenty of action both locally and beyond.
Pickleball keeps booming!
For the fourth year in a row, pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. And here’s something fun—over 70% of players are now between the ages of 18 and 44. That’s right, it’s not just for retirees anymore! Younger players are diving in, fueling the sport’s explosive growth and proving that pickleball truly brings generations together—from Gen Z to Boomers and everyone in between.
Major League Pickleball (MLP)—SaddleBrooke style
If you haven’t heard, MLP is a fresh, team-based twist on pickleball that mixes competition with camaraderie. Men and women team up for four games: men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and two rounds of mixed doubles. It’s fast, fun, and full of bragging rights! SPA’s MLP divisions will play every Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. throughout November (except Thanksgiving weekend). Swing by the Ed Robson Pickleball Center off Ridgeview to watch, cheer, and soak up the excitement.
Pickleball hits Hollywood!
Yes, pickleball is heading to the big screen. Keep an eye out for The Dink, a new comedy coming soon to Apple TV+. It stars Jake Johnson as a washed-up tennis pro who turns to pickleball to save a failing club—and win his dad’s approval. Produced by Ben Stiller, the movie also features Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, and Chloe Fineman, with cameos by Stiller, Andy Roddick, and John McEnroe. Sounds like a guaranteed hit for pickleball fans everywhere!
Come out and play!
SPA will again host pickleball for Grandchildren’s Day on Friday, Nov. 28, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ed Robson Pickleball Center. It’s open to kids six and older, along with parents and grandparents. No experience needed—just come ready to laugh and play! Details and registration are on the SaddleBrooke TWO website.
And if you’ve been thinking about trying pickleball yourself, now’s the perfect time. SPA offers a one-time introductory lesson for just $10 per person. Gather a group of four (or more) friends, and you’ll get a 90-minute lesson, with all equipment provided. To schedule, contact Shawne Cryderman at sfcrydo@yahoo.com or 845-826-1269.
Pickleball is fairly easy to learn, inexpensive, social, and great exercise. Whether you’re a competitor, a first-timer, or a fan on the sidelines, come join the fun.
See you on the courts!
