There are competitions in our area that may be entered as an incentive to become a better photographer. One of the aims when the SaddleBrooke Photo Club started this year was to enter the Arizona Camera Club Council’s fall and spring competitions. Learning to make the best possible pictures can help you reach your full potential and win against other clubs.
To prepare for this event, members brought some of their possible photo submissions to the Open Studio sessions which are held every Wednesday and Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. to noon in the Agate Room at MountainView to see if there was anything they might improve before printing or submitting digitally. Mentors there could give opinions or suggestions where they might improve their pictures.
With several members eager to submit photos, they also were pleased to learn how to mount their photos in a professional way and possibly to frame them later.
Preparing for the competition:
Since the printed photos had to be mounted securely to a uniformly sized mounting board, it was great that the club purchased a dry-mount press which firmly attached the print to the backing board by heat and a glue tissue. When competing against 14 other clubs in the southern Arizona area you want everything to be done perfectly. Our President Roddy Wilder has had extensive framing and dry mount experience in his years as a professional photographer.
Barbara Wilder has been on two other exhibition committees in other communities. We had the perfect help on hand to get entrants ready to enter the competition. We hope soon to have opportunities in the community to showcase our talents and art.
Finally: We plan to go to the Fall Roundup event at Sun Lakes in November to see how we fared competing with other clubs. There are 506 prints and 886 digital images submitted by all the clubs for fall show. Competition is tough to win those ribbons!
