Most of us have taken the “If it’s Tuesday, it must be Belgium” tours. There’s a different way to travel, says Brian Mundy, founder of the European Travel Club. Mundy spoke to SaddleBrooke Sunrise Rotary Club about customized tours that his group arranges and guides. When he and his wife came to SaddleBrooke some years ago, there was no travel club, so they came out of retirement and created a travel club that provides experiences off the beaten path. Past tours include Downton Abbey and the village and school where Kate Middleton met Prince William, a square dance tour, Slovenia and Transylvania. An upcoming Ireland tour includes Tom Hennigan’s Heritage Centre. Travelers will meet Tom and listen to his passionate story about how his ancestors survived the Great Famine. To show the Rotarians how he constructs tours, Mundy presented a customized tour for Rotarians in England. The tour would include places and experiences most travelers don’t see in England as well as visits to several Rotary clubs—a true Rotary International opportunity.
The European Travel Club encourages travel to learn, travel to appreciate other cultures and travel to peek inside the lives of real people and their towns. To learn more go to theeuropeantravelclub.com.
