News from the Institute for Judaic Services and Studies

The Institute for Judaic Services and Studies announces that Shabbat Services will be held Friday evening, March 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Mariposa Room of the DesertView Performing Arts Center (DVPAC). The service is led by Rabbi Sanford Seltzer and Cantorial Soloist Sarah Boltt, accompanied by Carolyn Cochran on the keyboard. The final Shabbat Service prior to the summer will take place on Friday evening, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. (West Ballroom, MountainView Country Club).

Please join us for an optional pre-Shabbat Service dinner in the East Room of MountainView Country Club (MVCC) at 5:00 p.m. Dinner selections will be from a limited menu. RSVP to Ellie Adelman at 818-3064 or [email protected]

Shabbat Services are followed by a festive Oneg Shabbat reception. The March 25 Oneg is being co-sponsored by Esta Goldstein in honor of her grandson Josh Goldstein’s graduation with honors from the Syracuse University School of Business and Hy and Roseanne Beraznik in honor of Roseanne’s father’s 104th birthday. Mazal Tov Esta, Hy and Roseanne!

Please consider sponsoring an Oneg Shabbat. It is a meaningful way to mark a milestone event in the family. We are seeking sponsors for our services in 2016-2017. For further information about being a sponsor, please contact Kim Halper at 825-7135.

The Institute was pleased to offer a four part course taught by Rabbi Seltzer on the subject, Are We the Chosen People?, which explored the theology and history of this concept, the contemporary context, and Christian and Muslim considerations of being chosen. These courses are open to the entire community and have been well received.

The Institute wishes the community a very Happy Purim and a joyous Passover holiday.
