Writing this article during the August dog days of summer reflects on the heat, mosquitoes, humidity, back-to-school shopping, and being reminded that Halloween and the holidays are just around the corner. My sister back in our home state of Iowa reminds me of August being the time for “corn sweat,” detasseling, and the ripened sweet corn for sale on many country road corners. Please know that there is a big difference between the growing of “feed corn” and “sweet corn.” Ask any Midwesterner or the giant green guy standing in the middle of a cornfield.
Although August dog days might be a time to switch gears between seasons, the women of WOOO (Women On Our Own) continue to stay involved with activities, events, and the nurturing of friendships and support.
A WOOOer with the initials P.R. has commented more than once, “Have you noticed that when WOOO ladies are part of a venue, other patrons will either ask what we are celebrating or if they can join us?” That’s how much our enjoyment of life and the company of each other becomes infectious. If you are new to SaddleBrooke as a single woman in a non-committed relationship and would like to learn more about WOOO, please contact our president Debbie Flato at 520-818-2904 or deblynne50@gmail.com to receive a membership form or to ask further questions. Our dues are $10 per year.
