The nearly full moon on May 9 provided an impressive setting for the annual MountainView Lady Putters (MVLP) Moonlight Madness event. MVLP members and their partners ventured onto the MountainView putting green after dinner and raffle drawings in the MountainView ballroom. It was a dark and cloudless night, and putters were ready to test the effects of a full moon on their partners, and their putting.
Moonbeams were not the only light to guide these putters from hole to hole. The Planning Committee members provided each participant with a glow stick bracelet and each team with a glow-in-the-dark golf ball. Thanks to the “stellar” work of these volunteers, each hole was decorated with illumination to make the putting green resemble a field of starlike glimmers for a few hours.
The first-place team was Sandy Strack, Dar Pittman, Lori Bolme, and Jim Bolme. Second place was Fira Stout, Cherie Haydock, Ginny Shockey, and Kevin Shockey. Third place was Sandy Valeton, Anne Everett, Ruth Sollin, and Dan Sollin. Annette Moyle had the lowest women’s score (37), and Jim Bolme had the lowest men’s score (38). Six participants had two holes-in-one, and three teams tied with three holes-in-one each.
The MVLP May 12 luncheon and business meeting in the MountainView ballroom included a unanimous vote to amend the organization’s by-laws, announcement of the April monthly awards, and a new special program of appreciation to recognize members who go above and beyond to ensure the organization works smoothly. The first recipient of this award is Raye Cobb who is recognized for her work as a past board member, her contributions to special events, and her ongoing photography work. President Roxy Heacock presented Raye with a Certificate of Appreciation.
The following putting awards for April were announced: Patti Paiz, Lou Ann Garvin Tiger of the Month Award (lowest net 31.1); Pat Wells, Roadrunner of the Month (lowest gross 36); and Dottie Adams, Most Holes-in-One (8).
Speakers at the May luncheon reported on the latest scams they have encountered, the tactics scammers use to lure their potential victims, and some steps to protect yourself and your assets. Thank you to Robert Muise, BMO Bank Manager in SaddleBrooke, and Detective Timothy Larkin of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office for their presentation.
The MVLP Charity Committee continues to raise funds through October for the Mammoth-San Manuel Unified School District. Linda Edwards is spearheading a fundraising goal of $2,000 to purchase new pre-K graduation caps and gowns. Additional funds will benefit the Teacher Educational Fund and Middle School Life Skills Training. Cash or check donations will be accepted through October.
