The first luncheon of the 27th year of MountainView Lady Putters (MVLP) was the annual Founders Day luncheon on Feb. 17. Members gathered around rose-themed tables in the MountainView ballroom to honor and celebrate strong women in Arizona. Fifteen past presidents were distinguished guests, recognized and honored with a single long-stemmed rose.
LouAnn Garvin, founder of MVLP, initiated the organization in February of 1998 with 33 members who were committed to making new friends, having fun, and improving putting skills. MVLP’s founder, past presidents, and founding members represent the backbone which connects all the strong women in the organization.
Current members Barbara Bloch and Ginny Shockey presented biographies of two strong Arizona women, Sandra Day O’Connor and Linda Ronstadt. The presentations highlighted the careers of these two women who were leaders in their respective fields. Justice O’Connor was the first female Supreme Court Justice of the United States. Linda Ronstadt’s national and international accomplishments in music entertainment brought attention to her as a trailblazer in the industry.
Awards for MVLP putting accomplishments in 2024 were presented. Maria Miller received the Roadrunner Award for Low Gross (37.4) and the Hole in Wonder Award for most holes-in-one (64). Darlene Pitman received the Lou Ann Garvin Tiger Award for Low Net (34.6).
Sandy Valeton, Sponsorship Committee chairperson, reported on the progress of the newly formed committee. Gold Sponsors ($500), Silver Sponsors ($250), and Bronze Sponsors ($125) are being sought to support the ongoing activities of the organization. To date, Gold Sponsors are Danielle Schamp from Long Realty and Al Delarvia from Platinum Air Heating and Cooling; Silver Sponsors are Tearse Butler and Cindy Armstrong from Dos Sirenas and Brianne Spaeth from Desert Life Pharmacy; and Bronze Sponsors are Jorge and Betty Rivas from Sammy’s Mexican Grill, Aaron Fronco from State Farm Insurance, and John Bogers from Coldwell Banker.
Earlier in February the organization was represented at the SaddleBrooke Activity Fair where information for potential members was provided. New members are welcome anytime. Membership is open to all ladies of SaddleBrooke. Weekly putting is held on Monday mornings at the MountainView putting green. No golf or putting experience is needed. All you need is a putter, a ball, and a desire to have a good time. If interested in joining, more information is available on the organization’s website at mvlputters.com.
On March 17 the MountainView Putters will join the Verde Sputters of SaddleBrooke One at their home putting green.
