MPWGA 2023 Awards

Ace winners: Janey Clausen, Linda Schauer, and Jane Megrdle

The MountainView/Preserve Women’s Golf Association (MPWGA) started out 2024 with a bang and some of that cold, white stuff. On Jan. 9 the Low Putts/Ace of the Month & Year event at The Preserve Golf Course had a three-and-a-half-hour snow delay. Ladies finished up their rounds by 4 p.m. and then headed over to the MountainView ballroom for a business dinner where new members were welcomed, outgoing board members were acknowledged, and 2023 year-end winners were named. Linda Schauer, who worked tirelessly sending out scorecards from Arizona and Wisconsin, presented the 2023 Ace winners Janey Clausen (gross 81) and Jane Megrdle (net 76). Mergrdle won a tie over Kathy Quesnell in a sudden death playoff.

Ralene Peters, who worked through injury and decreased her handicap in 2023 from 23.9 to 20.4, was named Most Improved Player. Peters is the 22nd player to qualify and receive the award since 2002, where a player must be a paid member of MPWGA for the entire calendar year, have played a minimum of 12 MPWGA Tuesday play days, and post a minimum of 48 18-hole rounds throughout the year.

And congratulations went to our very own Mike Karpe who won the 2023 Patriot Award given by PGA Southwest Section Southern Chapter to a PGA Professional who personifies patriotism through the game of golf.

On Jan. 16 it was a Pick Your Team Scramble where Linda DeWitt made a hole-in-one on hole number 6 at The Preserve. DeWitt, along with team of Aleta Rosenthal, MaryKay Nordhill, and Denise Cashmore, went on to score a 53 and win Flight 2 of the event. Flight 1 winners, with a score of 55, were new member Tana Lucy, Betty Cole, Carey Ricard, and Dianne Anderson.
