The Mountainview-Preserve Men’s Golf Association is looking forward to a year of the best golf we’ve had in many years. Both of our courses are in such excellent condition that we’ll no longer be able to excuse poor play for anything other than lack of talent. We also look forward to being led by a new, dynamic board of directors. Six of the 10 board members are not exactly new. Paul Caleb is completing his term as vice president, and Glenn Deutsch (treasurer), Dave Field (sponsorships), Dave Hill (handicaps), Egan Hicks (secretary), and Dave Quesnell (membership) have all decided to re-up for a second two-year term. The newbies on the board are Dave Schafer (special events), Bill Bender (weekly events), and Rules Guru Phil Gray will be back as rules (enforcer). Last, but certainly not least, Dan Schroeder will take the helm as president of the MPMGA. He has his work cut out for him to control the board and the angry mob of members.
The election took place during the annual meeting of the membership held during the Winter Bash luncheon. The vote was unanimous due to the lack of opposing candidates, and it was also naptime for many of the members. The Winter Bash, held during the waning days of Autumn, had three flights of competitors. The first flight was won by Jim Donat, Ken See, Randy Ross, and Don Plapinger. Charlie Maxim, Dave Petty, Scott West, and Jim Hardwick took honors in the second flight. The third flight winners were Brian Gallup, Paul Caleb, Bill Bach, and Tony Blunt.
The event on Dec. 11 was a Two Best Nets plus Bonus Ball Tournament. Flight winners were 1st Bill Bender, Randy Breier, Matt Kambic, and Terry Martell; 2nd Glen Hanson, Chris Nelson, Dave Schafer, and Grant Stewart; 3rd Greg Ames, Don Plapinger, Tom Quinn, and Pete Lebeau; and 4th Paul Caleb, Glenn Deutsch, Angelo Klousiadis, and Terry McCarthy.
Our final tournament of the year took place on Dec. 18. The two-man Chapman Scramble was won by Mike Hughes and Mark Dopheide in Flight 1, Greg Ames and Kevin Conway in Flight 2, Lowell Hegg and Dan Littell in Flight 3, and Bruce Twining and Darryl Henderson in Flight 4.
The Member-Member Match Play Tournament will be the highlight of the January schedule. Sign up to join the MPMGA and be a part of this and many more fun events. Contact Dave Quesnell at davidquesnell77@gmail.com for more information.
