After a few years of declining support and interest, the Mountainview-Preserve Men’s Golf Association (MPMGA) put on a real classic member-guest tournament and named it the Desperado. Yes, we were “desperate” to put on a great event, but I don’t think the name Desperado was meant to imply desperation on our part. This was President Al Bolty’s baby, and he, along with a stellar committee of volunteers, brought it all together in a few months’ time. Mike Karpe was instrumental in procuring sponsorship from Callaway Golf. No one walked away without some swag and memories of fun golf, good food, and fellowship.
The tournament was played in early April while I was gallivanting around Italy. From all accounts, I missed a special event. The overall winners were Randy Breier and Grant Bryden, with Bryan Kanz and Evan Schroader finishing second. Bob Ogle and his partner Andy Salz were the winners of the Friday Shootout. The other flight winners were Dave Henry and Kyle Pieper, Egan and Zach Hicks, John and David Smith, Dave Field and Mike Halliday, Robert Edelblut and Steven Devico, and Glenn Deutsch and Deane Wegge.
Losers rarely leave feeling good, but this time, everyone was happy. MPMGA President Al Bolty made this project his number-one priority, and his efforts paid off!
