Each year the members of MountainView Lady Putters vote to select a charity as the main focus of their fundraising activities throughout the year. While MVLP has only had four months of putting so far in 2015 due to the golf course renovation, the group was still able to come together to collect $700 to donate in August to the teachers at 1st Avenue Elementary School. Too often teachers spend out of pocket money to supplement school-provided allowances to stock their classrooms with supplies and accessories to provide students with an environment that is welcoming and conducive to learning. Our donation will allow the teachers at 1st Avenue Elementary some flexibility in outfitting their individual classrooms.

On September 14 over 100 putters and their guests met at The Vistas for lunch and a fashion show presented by Mary Carolin of Catalina Ranch House. Attendees were treated to seventeen new fall looks modeled by members of MVLP – Raye Cobb, Sue Rains, Donna Vargas, Maude Ruffin, Karen Stott, Roberta Wisniewski, Karel Titone and Karen Markley. Turquoise and coral were prominent colors in combination with black, blues and browns. Animal prints also continue to be a popular fall attire choice. Coordinating jewelry, including dangle earrings, fashion rings, cuff and bangle bracelets and necklaces provided a polished finish.

Also at the meeting, President Stef Modos and Board Member Sandy Strack presented proposed changes to the MountainView Lady Putters By-laws to add an option to have Co-Presidents and Co-Vice-presidents share the duties of those two positions. If the proposed changes are voted and accepted by the membership, there will not be a requirement that two people serve in each of those positions. However, if a member is willing to serve as President or Vice-President and would rather not serve alone due to time constraints or other reasons, the option will be there for two members to share the duties of each position. Discussion and member vote will be taken on the proposed changes at the October 12, 2015, luncheon.

We resume weekly putting on September 28, 2015. Early putting announcements will begin at 7:30 a.m. and late putting announcements will begin at 9:00 a.m. on the patio behind the Mesquite Grill. For our September 28 putting, all putters will pay a fee of $1 to cover the greens fees. Our dues cover the rest of the year. Note that October 1 putting times change to 8:45 and 10:15 a.m. Upcoming special events to put on the calendar include Moonlight Madness on Sunday, October 25 and a road trip to Quail Creek on Wednesday, November 4.

Anyone interested in MVLP was welcome to attend on September 28 and putt for the $1 fee. No golfing experience required; just bring your willingness to socialize in the good company of new friends. Orientation for new members will be held the first week of October.
