As of Oct. 27, SaddleBrooke golfers were finally able to enjoy golf on both MountainView and The Preserve. Our members endured six weeks of staggered closures due to annual overseeding. MountainView opened first with the caveat that cart path only was required. That led to a few complaints, but the beautiful condition of the course was undeniable. It will be cart path only at The Preserve for three weeks, which will be a tough walk for many of us, but worth it.
MPMGA is now looking forward to its Club Championship to be held on Nov. 6 and 13. The members can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that I won’t be able to compete due to minor surgery. Hence, the Championship is now wide open.
On Oct. 16 a two-man Shambles Tournament was held at MountainView. Winners of Flight 1 were Gary Colella and Egan Hicks. Flight 2 ended in a three-way tie between Tony Cardillo and Kelly Paxton, Bruce Keefer and Carter Luther, and Jerry Arnold and Bill Messick. Flight 3 honors went to John Anderson and David Markzon. David Cohen and Ron Pozzi took first place in Flight 4. Finally, Harry Clausen and Keith Flewelling won Flight 5 with the best net score of the entire tournament!
The Two Best Ball plus Bonus Ball Tournament played on Oct. 23 produced some good scores and a surprise winning team. The team of Doug Anderson, Jim Grosjean(!), Kevin Conway, and Ken See won Flight 2 with a score of minus 17. I personally believe that when the rest of the field saw us all decked out in resplendent red shirts, they pretty much gave up. I think the best-dressed team in the field has a big psychological advantage. On the other hand, if you wear Loudmouth brand shorts, you have little chance of winning. The other winning teams were Bob Barnard, Carter Luther, Michael Volz, and Chris Nelson in Flight 1 and Harry Clausen, Joe Oczak, George Kaplan, and Don Plapinger in Flight 3.
