Memorial Day Softball Tournament a Fabulous Success

The SaddleBrooke Senior Softball Memorial Day Tournament was just what we needed to kick off the coming summer months. Great weather, great food, and a capacity crowd made for a fabulous time at the old ballpark.

Our two tournament sponsors, Ambient Air and Coyote Golf Cars, were well represented and appreciated throughout the event. They help make these events possible. In keeping with the real spirit of Memorial Day, each of the teams lined their respective foul lines before each game for a moment of silence in memory of all those who died in war defending our country.

Moore Advantage Team got the best of Tucson Orthopedic in the 8 a.m. Rec/Sidewinder game. Dave Good led the winners with a home run and a double. Bill Webster was right behind with two triples for the day. John Mazujian had a double and two singles.

In the 9:30 a.m. Coyote/Community game the floodgates opened, the bats for both teams got hot, and balls were flying everywhere. Wildfire Wings came back at the very end to best Wanda Fudge Realty 31-30. Yeah, I know, that looks like an NFL score, but no, that is senior softball at its—well, I’ll let you decide. For Wanda Fudge, Dan Reed led the way with a double and five singles, Jay Schweitzer had a home run and four singles, Steve Jackson came along with two triples and two singles, Greg Gurewitz with five singles, and Jim Wollack with two doubles and two singles.

Wild Fire Wings was down 30-24 going into the bottom of the last inning. Led by Dave Dierick’s two home runs and Stacy Dawson’s six singles, they put on a wild finish. Ron Romac, Mark Wlach, and Mike Hamm all had four hits. To finish off the thriller, Jack Hauschildt already had five singles but capped it all off with a walk-off inside-the-park home run to win the game.

Ambient Air battled Coyote Golf Cars in the Competitive game at 11 a.m. Ambient Air pulled away in the last two innings to hold on and top Coyote Golf Cars 18-12 in a closely contested game. For the winners, Richard Figueroa homered twice, along with two singles, and Paul Massara homered, tripled, and doubled.

Tops for Coyote Golf Cars was Bob Chiarello with four singles and two walks. Adding to that was Morlin Hastings with three singles and Terry Mihora with a triple between two walks.

Leroy Johnson kept everyone rockin’ with music, and Dale Pizzitola provided play by play to add to the excitement.

Remember, when it is too hot or too cold, that means you need Ambient Air to give your AC and heating units the balance that gives your life the balance you need to stay comfortable. When you’re going to your favorite sporting activity or just prancing around to the clubs, Coyote Golf Cars puts you in style and comfort.

Our next SSSA tournament will be Labor Day. See you there!
