Between February 27 and March 27, 106 players completed 70 matches to decide the winners of the 2014 Member-Member Match Play Competition. This year’s event turned out to be very competitive with 56% of the matches going 18 holes or further and 83% going 17 holes or more.
With seven flights the flight winners were Flight 1 Bruce Fink and Fred Dianda; Flight 2 Eric VonderHeid and Mike Taken; Flight 3 Bill Webster and Leo Croteau; Flight 4 Doug Johnson and Ralph Leonard; Flight 5 Mike Buckley and Dutch Officer; Flight 6 John Kraus and Otto Voorman and Flight 7 Mike Cousens and Jerry Westra. In the final match were the teams of VonderHeid and Taken and Webster and Croteau. The overall champions, Bill Webster and Leo Croteau won three and one by playing steady golf through all five matches on their way to the title.
A highlight along the way was the hole in one by Mike Taken on No. 4 at the Preserve to secure a five and three victory in the semi-final match and making it to the final. And then there was the longest match of the event where Larry Fox and Alan Cooley stormed back after being down by four holes after nine to defeat the team of Dan Linegar and George Dawydowych in 24 holes thus causing Larry to miss the luncheon for which he was in charge.
Congratulations to all of the participants for a job well done.
