M. C. Escher: Impossible Worlds

Judy Saks

Let’s start with a question: Is graphic art “fine art”? Yes, a short definition (taken from Wikipedia) states: “A category of fine art, graphic art covers a broad range of visual artistic expression, typically two-dimensional graphics, i.e., produced on a flat surface ….”

Join us as we discuss the life and works of the 20th century Dutch graphic artist M. C. Escher. Escher produced drawings, lithographs, and woodcuts. He also illustrated books and designed carpets, banknotes, stamps, and more. He is perhaps most known for his “Impossible Worlds.” In these, the artist proves to be a master at blending reality and fantasy. The more you look, the more you see. And the more you see, the more you may ask yourself, “How can this be real?”

This presentation on M. C. Escher is sponsored by the SaddleBrooke Art Salon and is free to all SaddleBrooke residents. The event will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at 10:30 a.m. in the Topaz Room at SaddleBrooke TWO.
