Lisa A. Atkins was appointed by Governor Douglas A. Ducey to serve as Commissioner of the Arizona State Land Department on June 15, 2015 and confirmed by the Arizona State Senate on February 29, 2016. The Arizona State Land Department manages a multi-generational, perpetual Trust asset of more than nine million acres on behalf of 13 beneficiaries defined in the enabling Act for Arizona. The largest of the 13 beneficiaries to receive funds from this Trust is Arizona‘s Common Schools (K-12).
The 9.2 million acres included in this Trust asset comprise 13% of the state of Arizona. Mrs. Atkins emphasized that the goal of the Arizona State Land Department is to maximize the assets accrued by the 9.2 million acres in a prudent manner and align the interests of today’s 13 beneficiaries with the interests of tomorrow’s beneficiaries. With Lisa Atkins at the helm of this very important Arizona State Land Department, Arizonans can be assured that this goal is being met under her efficient, knowledgeable and thorough management.
As an Arizona native and graduate of the University of Arizona, Lisa combines a well-rounded understanding of the state of Arizona with more than 40 years of work in the federal and state legislative and policy arena. While serving for more than 23 years as Chief of Staff to Congressman Bob Stump (R-AZ), Lisa worked closely with residents, citizens’ groups, associations and state and local governments on a wide and diverse set of issues of importance to Arizona, particularly focusing on land, water and military issues. Lisa is well respected in the Arizona community for her involvement in a variety of organizations.
