Jim Tayburn
You may or may not know of the organization called SaddleBrooke Links Players Fellowship. If you do, you know that we are a group of golfers who play the game as a group every Thursday. Yes, we all enjoy this sometimes-maddening game and we can talk golf ad infinitum with the best of them. But there is so much more to Links Players than golf. Our core principles start with a love of God and extending that love to others, helping those less fortunate than ourselves, and using the great game of golf to bring others to Christ. We don’t believe every bad shot needs to be followed by an expletive deleted.
As an example of extending love to others, every year our group participates in packing meals for the worldwide organization, Feed My Starving Children. On January 20 of this year, 21 of us were part of this event and in just two hours we, in concert with others, packed approximately 15,000 meals, enough meals to feed 39 starving children around the world for a year. That’s a pretty amazing contribution for just two hours work. The total number of meals packed for the entire Feed My Starving Children event was 216,000 or enough to feed over 500 children for a year. In years past, 18,000 kids were dying every day of starvation or diseases caused by undernourishment. Through efforts like Feed My Starving Children, that number is now down to 6,000—good progress, but still unacceptable.
Those participating in Feed My Starving Children this year included Roger and Sandy Bales, Brent and Nancy Carlson, Chuck and Joyce Farho, Stan and Eve Fly, Joe and Denise Kasile, Parley and Colleen Merrill, Norm and Jan Rechkemmer, Mark and Terri Steinsdoerfer, Greg and Carol Tarr, Dave and Joanne Thomas and Jim Tayburn.
