Dr. Mark Magdanz
Just over three years ago I had open heart surgery—wildly successful. That recovery, what a bore! How fast the steps recede deep into a fog. Every dance I knew in June is a blur. Having fun with friends, exercising, listening to music – that is what line dance is truly about and what I needed to do. Having that lost time away motivated me to work back into dancing form and fitness as quickly as possible. And now three years and two months later I can’t remember being gone. We, students and teacher alike, are better skilled and faster to learn if not afoot. You are unlikely to find a more committed teacher than Rebecca.
So what does that mean to someone who hasn’t experienced the joy of dancing together in a group and sharing fun and friendship? Maybe it’s time to get off the couch and see why so many SaddleBrookers are addicted to the fun of line dance. It’s the number three fitness activity across the world for seniors. Why? Fun, safe, fitness and memory building/repairing; a natural anti-depressant all in one fell swoop. So, if you want something more rewarding in your life – it’s the last minute to join the fall season.
Level 1/Beginner class starts October 3 and will run Monday late mornings into 10 classes. Space to sign up is already gone pending cancellation in SaddleBrooke for the easiest paced class taught. If you want a space to dance, plan to start on Wednesday afternoons at SaddleBrooke Ranch.
Level 2 series will begin October 3, 4 and 5. Level 2 is Monday p.m., Tuesday a.m. and Ranch Wednesday p.m. Level 2 (Advanced Beginner/Easy Intermediate) reservation lists for classes this fall are essentially full so act quickly to sign up (or reserve January 2017 series now). If you are experienced beyond beginner level and fit, you may be able to start dancing with Rebecca as every series features new dances and skills and builds within itself; also 10 classes long.
Level 3/Intermediate fall series will start October 6. Like Level 2 the series is designed to entertain and challenge more experienced and skilled dancers; basically no one starts at this level without dancing elsewhere for years and with great fitness.
Levels 1, 2 and 3 Practice Sessions occur most weeks during the year. In practices we regularly perform about 5,000 steps in a one hour session. Practices are split so each level has their own private time.
Rebecca’s class reservations are open into 2018 (not kidding) and are limited in size for the best atmosphere. Rebecca, a 12 year full-time resident, has been professionally teaching happy residents how to line dance since January 2008 with a special brand of enthusiasm, dedication and joy for bringing dance to others.
