On July 18, a bright, searingly hot afternoon, at 1:30 p.m., 25 line dancers gathered in the cool, elegant, and exotic interior of the home of SaddleBrooke Line Dance Club (SBLDC) member Jennifer Stephens to enjoy ice cream treats, cookies, and time to relax and chat with one another.

Stepping in from the brilliant sunshine to the lovely shaded entryway, dancers were immediately drawn toward the family room where gorgeous Catalina Mountain views were framed in the eastern windows. There, just to the right, was a kitchen bar arrayed with a decadent assortment of tasty rewards for the dancers, some of whom had “been at it” since the Novice+ class had convened at 8 a.m. through the Level 1 Workshop at 10 a.m., which lasted until noon! Behind the ice cream and cookie bar were the familiar, friendly faces of the “scoopers,” the kind ladies who had volunteered to serve up our delights. Shirley Miller, Julie Kalar, and Mary Ann Arrey grinned a greeting and waited patiently for our selections. Along with an assortment of ice cream flavors, there were fresh blueberries, strawberries, walnuts, and, naturally, whipped cream. As if that weren’t enough, there were mouthwatering cookies in abundance to satisfy 25 ravenous dancers.

Bowls and saucers in hand, dancers relaxed and mingled at the kitchen table, on comfy couches and chairs in the family room, and ultimately on the sumptuous living room furniture after the lady of the house kindly encouraged us to assemble there for a series of group photos. Laughter and easy conversation filled the charming residence and were “the cherry on top” of a sweet afternoon.
