On June 12 the SaddleBrooke Lady Niners held their usual June General Meeting and Brunch. After a toasty round of golf in the heat, our president Debbie Thompson welcomed all the members and our guests – our Pros Bernie Eaton and Troy Jewkes, as well as our Course Superintendent Mike Roddy. Next, she called upon Robbie Summers (chair of our 2018 Invitational) and Opal Larkin (co-chair) to speak about our highly successful event. The ladies thanked everyone for their support in our Aloha Invitational back in March and then Robbie introduced our very special guest for the day, Fran Gerson. Fran, our representative from Girls Junior Golf of Tucson, even had come early enough to join in our golf game.
Fran addressed the group and thanked us for our continuing support of this most worthy organization. Girls Junior Golf of Tucson encourages the sport with young ladies by providing them with lessons, clinics, equipment and many other amenities. This is a large and enthusiastic group of girls who have benefitted greatly by participating in this activity and this endeavor is made possible by the donations from several groups. Our Lady Niners is one of those groups and it is customary for us to use the proceeds from our Invitational (supplemented by a donation from our League Board) to contribute to the cause. Robbie then had the pleasure of presenting Fran with a check for $500. It’s always a wonderful feeling to share our love of the game with those who might otherwise never have the chance to enjoy it!
Next up on our schedule is another of our popular events, the Niners Unite Tournament, chaired by Charlotte James. On July 10 the Lady and Men Niners will partner together for another fun round of golf with lunch and prizes afterward. It may be summertime but we won’t let a little heat hold us back!
