The holiday season was upon us in December and the Knit Wits were busy creating gifts for loved ones as well as items for our various charities. A wide variety of knitted and crocheted goods, from tiny preemie hats to large afghans, were making regular appearances at our weekly meetings.
The end of the year also brings the Knit Wits holiday party organized this year by Donna Silverman and Kathy Harris. Fifty members were in attendance in the Agave Lounge of SaddleBrooke One. Tables were artfully arranged with centerpieces filled with knitted gifts. Special thanks to Pat Lenz, Barb Kervin, and Tina Marie Willis for power knitting these items. Each place setting was also decorated with goodie bags of sweets. No one left empty handed.
While awaiting our food, we were encouraged with suggested questions to find out more about our table mates. The topics were wide ranging and went beyond knitting. The Agave Lounge was filled with conversation. As always, SaddleBrooke One did a great job with the meal. We had three entrée choices: stuffed portobello mushroom on a polenta cake, chef salad with salmon, or a turkey sandwich on ciabatta bread with squash soup. Dessert was red velvet cake. Yum! Many thanks to our chef, staff, and servers for this delightful event.
The end of each year is a time for looking back and looking forward. Barb Kervin and Tina Marie Willis have been our co-presidents for the last two years. We members have been the lucky recipients of their knitting and crocheting expertise as well as a wide variety of planned activities in our club.
Looking forward, 2020 will ring in with two new leaders, Jayne Poppert and Dee Mahaney. They have been busy transitioning into the new year. Already speakers are being lined up, workshops arranged to increase our skills, and field trips planned to local yarn shops and exhibits. In addition, we already have 70 dues paying members for 2020. They will be enjoying camaraderie and helping each other knit and crochet at our meetings. Come join us! We meet every Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. in the SaddleBrooke One Arts & Crafts Center Room 4. We talk, we laugh, we create.
