Kings, Queens, and Jesters Rule MountainView

Jim Grosjean

Every year the MPMGA and MPWGA put on an event known as the Kings and Queens Tournament. Co-ed teams of four golfers are treated to 18 challenging holes, made more difficult with the addition of castles and moats, toy putters, and all manner of distractions. Everyone was a winner, since we were treated to a nice lunch at the end of play.

While the MountainView course received its three-week maintenance rest and overseed process, the MPMGA golfers spent quality time playing at The Preserve. There were few complaints, however, since The Preserve course is in its best shape in recent memory. Just as we’re all getting comfortable on The Preserve, MountainView will be reopening, and we can take out our frustrations there for three straight weeks. We can only hope that The Preserve will come out of its maintenance even better than ever!

Tournaments in September were all pleasant, well-run events, even though I netted minus $20 or so. The Individual Net and Canadian Skins Tourney on Sept. 4 produced these winners: Jim Donat, Tony Cardillo, Greg Ames, Alan Mansker, and Angelo Klousiadis. The 4-man Scramble on Sept. 18 produced some stunning scores. In the first flight, the all-star team of Bill Bender, Lee Leksell, Dan Nordhill, and Tim Ward recorded a fantastic score of 18 under par. The second flight was led by Tony Cardillo, Dave Field, Kelly Paxton, and Ron Siniscalchi, with a scintillating score of 17 under par. Don Sanders, Randy Ross, Jim Van Sistine, and Chuck Kelsey took Flight 1 honors in the Rotating Partners Tournament on Sept. 25. Jeff Cashmore, Tony Cardillo, Dave Field, and Angelo Klousiadis won the second flight. By the way, this is the first time I’ve had to mention Tony Cardillo’s name three times in one article. I may be asking him for a loan.

Looking ahead, The Preserve will reopen on Oct. 27, and the Club Championship will take place at MountainView on Nov. 6 and 13. The fun never ends for the MPMGA!
