June Heats Up HOA2 Golf Courses

Jim Grosjean

They say July is the hottest month in Tucson, but in my limited experience, it’s June, for sure. At least the possibility of rain in the monsoon season gives us hope for July. June promises no such respite from the unrelenting dry heat. Be that as it may, the intrepid golfers of MPMGA carry on their weekly forays into tournament golf with the hope of winning the spoils of victory.

Two special events take center stage on the June golf calendar: the Summer Bash and a new tournament pitting MPMGA golfers against SaddleBrooke Ranch golfers. The Summer Bash isn’t really all that special. It’s simply a rotating partner scramble, but afterwards there will be lunch provided at the MountainView ballroom. Since lunch includes free beer, that makes it special to me. On the other hand, the skirmish between MPMGA and SaddleBrooke Ranch is a first-time event and promises to be an event that will be fun for all. I believe this event needs a name like “The Ambush at The Preserve” or “The Beatdown at the Ranch.” Hopefully, at the end of the second day of competition, all malice will be put aside as we enjoy lunch at the Ranch.

Looking back on some recently completed events, the flight winners of the Rotating Partners game on May 22 were Grant Stewart, Shel Jahn, Bob Ogle, and Glen Hanson in Flight 1 and Pete Gregor, Pete Lima, Jeff Taylor, and Paul Caleb in Flight 2. On May 15 John Brubaker, Ken See, Dave Quesnell, and Tony Blunt won the Two Best Ball event in Flight 1, while Matt Kambic, Tony Cardillo, Tim Donovan, and Bob Osebold took first in Flight 2.

Our numbers dwindle in the summer, but we have just as much fun as any other time of the year. We welcome men to join our ranks. Shoot an email to Dave Quesnell at davidquesnell77@gmail.com for membership information. See you on the course!
