SaddleBrooke Barbershop Chorus

Jerry Gustafson

You know those songs you used to sing as a young man? Well, locally, the SaddleBrooke Barbershop Chorus has kept the Barbershop tradition going since 1998. Barbershop harmony is a style of unaccompanied lyrics and easily singable melodies. In Barbershop, the melody is usually sung by the lead (second tenor) with the tenor (first tenor) harmonizing above the melody. The bass sings the lowest notes and the baritone completes the chord.

We are a chapter of the International Barbershop Harmony Society which has about 20,000 members and 700 chapters. We would love to have men who like singing try us out; we have a nationally known director and a computer program to help you learn your specific part and improve your singing skills. We do performances for various groups who want entertainment; sing for some assisted living/nursing home facilities, as well as perform a concert at DesertView Theatre each December.

Our chorus meets every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Agate Room of SaddleBrooke TWO Arts and Crafts Center, 38725 S MountainView Blvd. Join us! You’ll have a ball!

This year’s concert is on December 14. As part of our show we are bringing back a wonderful singing group called the A Cappella Syndicate. They appeared with our Barbershop Chorus last year and were extremely well received! They are from Phoenix and are one of the best choruses in the country. Each chorus will sing some of your Christmas favorites as well as a variety of fun and recognizable songs. Then we will join together for some special Christmas songs. More information to follow but reserve the date now. Get your tickets at www.dvpac.net or at the SaddleBrooke TWO Admin Bldg – 825-2818.
