The Pool Players of The Brooke Billiards Club (PPB) hosted an 8-Ball Singles Tournament on July 27 in SaddleBrooke One’s Catalina Recreation Center Billiards Room. Thank you, Stone Canyon Painting and Leah Kari Solutions, for sponsoring this tournament. The format of this 8-Ball Singles Tournament was double elimination.

The tournament director was Joe Giammarino. The following field of 16 players showed up to compete in the game of 8-ball singles: George “The G Man” Bone, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Dick “Highlander” Dunbar, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Bill Webster, Bob “O” Ogle, Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Les Goins, Dan Solin, Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Rich “Hide the Salami” Adinolfi, Jack “Crash” Hoverter, and we welcomed Carlos Tejada and Lisa Tejada, two of our newest PPB members.

Results:

1st: Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, finally beat the “Snake,” 5 wins, losses

2nd: Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, always in the mix! 4 wins, 2 losses

3rd: Fred “The Baker” Dianda, eliminated by Snake’s run out! 4 wins, 2 losses

4th: Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, had his chances, 3 wins, 2 losses

Recap: Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino’s unobstructed road to victory was as follows: His road to triumph started by defeating, in order, Joe Vidmar, Dick Dunbar, and Lowell Hegg. Next up in the Hill/Hill game, Joe defeated Tony Cardillo to gleefully send him to the loser’s bracket. In the loser’s bracket, Tony and Fred faced off to get an opportunity to go back against Joe in the finals. Fred broke dry, and Tony proceeded to flawlessly run out the rack and send Fred packing. In the finals, Tony would have to beat Joe twice to wrestle the title away. Not on this Saturday, as Joe weathered the storm to eliminate Tony in the first game and lock up the win! Congrats, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino!
