If you missed the April 11 SaddleBrooke Ranch Women’s Club Luncheon, you missed a wonderful presentation by Dee Sanders about JEWEL. JEWEL stands for Journal for Experienced Women Enjoying Life. “It is the acronym we have given our digital magazine that targets all baby boomer and senior women,” said Dee. “Since we are not fond of being called baby boomers or seniors, we gave ourselves the name of Jewel Generation. After all, we are the priceless, timeless women of our generation. We are the Jewels on the family tree,” she added.
Research for JEWEL revealed that seniors represent a large financial force—the third largest economy in the world, according to an article in AARP. “Our first thought was to start a traditional magazine but, after learning everything that was involved in doing that, we decided to launch a digital magazine,” she added. And so, JEWEL was born!
Dee stressed that it’s not important for women to know name brands or try to emulate models in most fashion magazines. “You just need to know your body, embrace your age and celebrate your curves,” she said. To illustrate how easy it is to look good, feel good and be fashionable, Dee teamed up with Nadine’s, a lovely women’s clothing store located at 11931 North 1st Avenue in Oro Valley to put on a small fashion show at the luncheon. The three models ranged in age from the low 50s to the high 70s. They all looked lovely in outfits that went from casual to dressy, short to long. They were all comfortable, attractive and age appropriate!
Each luncheon attendee received a coupon for 10% off a purchase at Nadine’s and a drawing was held for two gift certificates. Be sure to check out www.jewelgeneration.com. “It’s fun, it’s free and it’s for us!” Dee enthused. You’ll find articles on fashion and beauty, health and wellness, finance and technology, home and lifestyle, notable Jewels, leisure and travel and the arts. “We’re looking for women to contribute articles about any of the above categories. Even if you can’t write but have a story, let us know, she added and we’ll write it for you.”
