Rumor has it that the Men’s Club Hole-in-One Train is seriously damaged. The last hole-in-one was April 25, and it was only the fourth of the year. Morale is so low that the tournament director has started challenging the field at our weekly events to raise the bar, to get it done, to produce an ace! Nothing is working. Many are whispering that the train may be doomed.
But then, on Monday, August 7, Jerry Westra put all those fears to rest. Many of you may remember that Jerry scored his first-ever hole-in-one on February 2, and now, just six months later, number two is in the books. Congratulations one more time! You are on a roll. This time, the eighth hole at MountainView yielded Jerry’s ace. He guessed as he stood on the tee that his distance to the pin was about 117 yards. I think he said to himself, “that’s an easy seven iron.” Jerry and his playing partners, John Cobb and Mal Mudd, all knew the shot was hit perfectly. But not one of them actually saw the ball fall into the hole. Once on the green, all three rushed to the hole and saw first-hand that Jerry’s ball was resting at the bottom of the cup. The commotion that took place on the eighth green once reality set in was so loud that every nearby golfer knew what Jerry had done. I can only imagine how expensive the day became. Well done and thanks again for putting all those ugly rumors to bed.
