The Pool Players of The Brookes Billiards Club (PPB) hosted a 9-Ball singles pool tournament on March 30 in SaddleBrooke One’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room. The format was a double-elimination 9-Ball singles tournament. Thank you, Rancheros Market, for sponsoring this tournament to the tune of a special gift certificate for the first four finishers.

1st Place: One cowboy steak, one pack of tortillas, and two breakfast meals of your choice

2nd Place: Two breakfast meals of your choice

3rd Place: One pound of shrimp ceviche and one pack of chips

4th Place: One pack of chips and a salsa of your choice

The tournament director was Joe Giammarino. The following field of players showed up to compete in the game of 9-Ball: Dick “The Visor” Titus, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Dick “Highlander” Dunbar, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Phelps “Montana” L’Hommedieu, Bill Webster, Bob “O” Ogle, Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Dave Parker, Dan Sollin, Russ Doering, Jack “Crash” Hoverter, and Dave Whitman.

Results:

1st: Jack “Crash” Hoverter, undefeated! 5 wins, 0 losses

2nd: Randy “Thin Man” Smith, so close! 5 wins, 2 losses, 1 bye

3rd: Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, left 3 hanging 9-balls! 3 wins, 2 losses

4th: Russ Doering, good showing in tough field, 4 wins, 2 losses

Recap:

Jack “Crash” Hoverter’s road to victory was as follows: Jack started by defeating, in order, Dave Whitman, Dick Dunbar, Tony Cardillo, and Joe Giammarino. Meanwhile, Randy Smith was working his way through the loser’s bracket to have a chance to overcome Jack’s undefeated play. Randy would have to beat Jack twice to take the title away from him. Jack was up to the challenge, as he bested Randy in the first match 2 to 0 to take the 9-Ball title. Congrats, Jack “Crash” Hoverter! Enjoy your cowboy steak!

PPB’s Gift Winner: Dick Dunbar

The PPB wants to thank all our participants. The 9-Ball singles tournament started at 1 p.m. and lasted two and a half hours with more than 40 games of 9-Ball being played. We competed with friends who have a shared passion. That is a good day! Rack ‘em Up!
