If the high holidays are over, is your spiritual year over? Even if Yogi Berra asked that question in his own special way, the answer would be “No, it isn’t over – we’ve just started.” The Institute offers joyous opportunities to mix worship with the companionship of friends and neighbors.
Shabbat Services: We continue our Shabbat observances on Friday evenings at 7:00 p.m.: November 11, December 16, January 27, February 24, March 24; and April 28. Services will be held at MountainView’s Ballroom West.
Shabbat Dinner and Oneg: An optional dinner at MountainView precedes our lively Shabbat services. We meet at 5:00 p.m. in MountainView’s East Room. Ellie Adelman coordinates our Shabbat meals – direct your dinner reservations to her email address: [email protected]. An Oneg follows each service; each one honors a different occasion so come and see what wonderful reasons we have to celebrate.
Adult Education: These sessions are open to the entire SaddleBrooke community.
Rabbi Seltzer’s topic for January 30, February 6 and 13 (Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at MountainView Ballroom West) is Jesus and Judaism: Ways That Never Parted. Over the centuries Jesus played a significant role, both negative and positive in Jewish history. The sessions explore three critical illustrations not only of his importance in the spiritual life of the Jewish people, but also in the philosophy of Zionism.
Session I – Jesus in Jewish Tradition: Rejection and Reclamation
Session II – Jesus and the Charismatic Figure of the Hassidic Rebbe: Parallels and Distinctions
Session III – Jesus as the Consummate Symbol of Ethical Zionism in Modern Hebrew Literature.
