In Passing – October 2026

Bette Mazujian

Bette Mazujian

Bette Mazujian, age 93, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away peacefully on Aug. 28, 2026. She was born on Jan. 12, 1933, in Newark, N.J., to the late Albert and Marion (Ackerson) Carlson. She was predeceased by one sister, Mae Austill.

She was the beloved wife of John Mazujian, who went to eternal rest in 2023 after the celebration of 70 years of marriage.

Her greatest joy was her family and she dedicated herself to nurturing and supporting those she loved: daughter Donna (John) Sohikian and son John (Rebecca) Mazujian, all residing in SaddleBrooke in Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren: Christopher (Alessia) Mazujian, Ashley (David) Kaczorowski, Lauren Sohikian, and Brooke Mazujian, six great–grandchildren, and two nephews.

Bette graduated in 1951 from Union High School in New Jersey and began her first job at Prudential Insurance Company. When John began teaching on Long Island, they moved there and she focused on her role as a homemaker and raising her two children. Later she worked at several part-time jobs including Marine Midland Bank and Montessori School.

Upon retirement, John and Bette moved to Arizona; first Sedona for 15 years, and then to SaddleBrooke in Tucson for another 16 years. Together they enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends, attending church, and dining out. For the past two years Bette enjoyed her residence at Fairwinds Desert Point in Oro Valley, where she enjoyed the activities and developed more friendships.

She touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, compassion, warmth, and genuine love for others left a lasting impression. She had a way of making people feel welcome and valued, and her beautiful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Those wishing to honor Bette’s memory are invited to make a donation to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, Hospice Foundation of America, or another charity or organization that holds special meaning to them.

Interment will be at the Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Marana, Ariz., at a future date.
