Home in a Burned-Out Car

Stuart Watkins

There is no place warmer than home,

whether it be in a burned-out car,

cardboard box on a sidewalk,

shack shared with 12 others,

or a blanket under a brush.

Home is where the heart is,

and the heart has room to roam,

as it wanders from hither and yon,

seeking the warmth of a mother’s arms,

or a father who stayed behind.

Don’t matter.

Just want a home.
