SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club holiday celebrants

Judy Saks

The SaddleBrooke TWO ballroom, decorated with a sparkling tree, evergreen wreaths, and winter-themed centerpieces on the tables, was the setting for the SaddleBrooke Ballroom Dance Club’s holiday party on Dec. 14. More than 100 partygoers began the evening with their favorite beverages and passed appetizers before dining on prime rib or salmon. A delicious dessert of vanilla sponge cake with caramel and chocolate ganache was an added treat. Soft music played during cocktails and dinner. If you listened closely, you could hear seasonal songs like “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” “The Little Drummer Boy,” “Joy to the World,” and the classic “Frosty the Snowman” by Gene Autry. This charming medley was thanks to our “musical maestro” for the evening, DJ Bill Rigg.

It has been a remarkably busy year for the club. We welcomed nine sponsors through our new sponsorship program and sold raffle tickets at dance lessons and parties. There were monthly raffle winners and one big yearly winner. The winner of $200 for the month of December was Eva Langdahl, and the $700 grand prize for the entire year went to Dan Plattner. Congratulations to them and all the previous monthly winners! The money raised through these programs helps defray the costs of running our wonderful club.

One more piece of business to address before dancing continued was the presentation of the Ann and Dale Pizzitola Volunteer of the Year Award. To recognize their impressive work in developing the Novice program, dance instruction, and a host of other contributions, the award was given to its namesake, Ann and Dale Pizzitola, with Ann graciously accepting their trophy. They are a very talented team, on and off the dance floor.

Couples were moving around the floor to all the usual dances, like the foxtrot, waltz, rumba, and cha-cha. There were a few more songs of the season sprinkled in. Doing an East Coast swing to “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” was fun. Dancers “hustled” to Donna Summer singing “Rosie Christmas.” And people could do whatever sort of dance they wished to the all-time favorite “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.” Thanks again to our DJ Bill Rigg for his song selections. What a great night. Can’t wait to do it all over again next year.
