Happy 2015 from the Knit Wits. This great group meets every Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the SaddleBrooke One Arts and Crafts Center, Room No. 4, to knit and crochet. We welcome all skill levels and will even teach non knitters or crocheters the craft if you’re interested. Membership is a bargain at only $12 a year.
In December we had a lovely holiday brunch with a large number of members present. We do have great cooks in the Brooke. We filled three car trunks with Toys-for-Tots and they were delivered to the fire station. We also collected baked goods for the firemen and delivered them.
New officers are in place for 2015. Our Co-Presidents are Glenna Webster and JoAnn Ciaciuch. This year we have instituted committees to handle education/program, publicity, social events, finance and service/charity. Shirley Long will serve as our treasurer and Kim Harper will handle membership.
Claudia Brust, along with her education/ program committee, will start the year teaching a class on cuff warmers and fingerless gloves. The class includes reading charts and beading. New and exciting projects will be presented throughout the year.
Charity projects are very important to the Knit Wits. In 2014 we donated over 400 knitted knockers for post mastectomy clients. We continue to donate hats to Kids’ Closet and knitted items for the Troop Support baby shower. We do baby/preemie blankets, hats and sweaters, chemo hats for adults and children, lap blankets and children’s sweaters. Patterns and help are available if you haven’t used knitting needles or crochet hooks in many years, or ever.
Come join us, bring your current projects, look for new projects, share your handiwork at show and tell on the first Wednesday of each month and meet new friends. You can stop by any Wednesday morning to see what we’re all about.
