For its Winter Event, GLAAS (Gays, Lesbians and Allies at SaddleBrooke) invited several religious leaders of the SaddleBrooke and Catalina communities to a panel discussion to share the positions of their respective religions and congregations towards the lesbian, gay and transgender communities.
The representatives of the various religions were as follows:
Fr. Greg Wiest, C. Sr. R. of the Santa Catalina Catholic Church, Reverend Rachel Srubas of the Mountain Shadows Presbyterian Church, Reverend Palmer Ruschke of the Resurrection Lutheran Church and Rabbi Helen Cohn of Congregation M’ Kor Hayim.
Each of the panelists had stories and experiences to share, some humorous, all thought-provoking. Many attendees shared their personal stories of sons and daughters who are gay and their personal journeys towards forgiveness and acceptance. The event was very well attended (over 100 SaddleBrooke residents) which highlighted the need for this type of dialogue. GLAAS hopes to continue this important conversation in future events.
Upcoming GLAAS Events:
Annual election of the 2016-2017 Board, party and potluck, March 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the SaddleBrooke One Activity Center. All SaddleBrooke residents are welcome.
