There is nothing more frightening than hearing “Your child has cancer.” You step back, close your eyes and try to take a breath. In the instant it seems as though life has been knocked out of you. It is something no parent should ever have to hear—Chrisie Funari’s daughter Ava was diagnosed at age 18 months with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. She relates—then you pull yourself together for your child and the rest of the family. You navigate a healthcare system that no one ever wants to traverse—and do so with both strength and hope. Thus the journey for more than 350 Arizona families each year. More than one third of these families reach out to the Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children for help. Unfortunately, Ava passed away before her fifth birthday. The SBWGA lady golfers have chosen this organization to be their focus in January 2017 as they come together to raise monies for ACFC. The need is great and ACFC has grown steadily since its inception, yet they are small and flexible enough to hone their offerings based on the needs of the families and input from the medical community. Please join us January 31 for an 8:00 a.m. shotgun, raffle and lunch. Chrisie Funari will be our featured speaker. Information will be in the computer posting area of HOA 1 early January. Any lady golfer with an established handicap is encouraged to play.
