Games for Active Brains Raises $27,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association

Richard Kaas, president of Small Slams, and Dr. Joyce Honorof, club manager of Northwest Tucson Bridge Club, led the effort for a fun and successful GAB 2026!

The Saddlebrooke ONE Clubhouse was filled with over 210 people from Saddlebrooke, Sun City, and Saddlebrooke Ranch playing games at the Games for Active Brains fundraiser hosted by Small Slams and Northwest Tucson Bridge Club.

Besides playing their chosen game, attendees purchased raffle tickets and bid on a variety of fun, decorative, decadent, or useful Silent Auction items. Maj Jongg players filled the Agave Lounge and bar area, while social bridge players gathered near the fireplace, and 27 tables of duplicate bridge players filled the Vistas Dining Room to capacity.

A representative from the Alzheimer’s Association was present to provide information and to answer questions about the latest research on the disease.

This was the fourth event that these clubs have hosted to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, and, with proceeds exceeding $27,000, it was clearly the most successful. In the past only duplicate bridge players were included; adding Mah Jongg and social bridge to the event was a great way to expand participants and fundraising potential.

The clubs would also like to thank the Sun City Foundation for their generous donation of $4,000 to the cause.

The clubs intend to make GAB an annual event. If you would like to be notified of GAB 2027, please send an email to EndAlzheimers7@gmail.com and you will be notified of the next event.
