For the fifth year, SaddleBrooke, SaddleBrooke Ranch, and Oracle volunteers are working together to provide much-needed food over winter break for students at Mountain Vista School in Oracle. Fueling the Future began and is continuing as a grassroots effort to support students at Mountain Vista.
Many Mountain Vista students rely on school breakfasts and lunches, which are not available during the 15 days of winter break, and many may suffer from food insecurity. Fueling the Future has provided non-perishable and fresh food for more than 75 students and families.
Distribution is on Dec. 19, which is the final day of school. Students who are members of the National Junior Honor Society work to sort, bag, and distribute the food. We are proud of their efforts and willingness to assist others.
Beginning Nov. 29 through Dec. 13, please donate non-perishable foods, cash, or checks at the locations listed below. If making a contribution by check, please make it payable to Oracle Community Center, a 501(c)(3) organization. Your check is your receipt for tax-deductible donations. Cash and checks are used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables.
Suggested donations: peanut butter/jelly, cereal, pasta/sauce, mac & cheese, dry rice, soups, applesauce, juice boxes/bottles, dessert mixes, boxed potatoes, canned fruit, cookies, canned vegetables, crackers, breakfast bars, canned beans, canned tuna, and canned chicken, but all non-perishable foods are accepted.
