Vander Wagen Jewelry from the Amerind Museum
The next Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries (FSL) lecture will be on March 13 at 4 p.m. at DesertView Theatre.
Southwestern native people introduced the world to a unique American art form, and a young missionary couple from Michigan and their family sought to preserve a collection—a treasury of Navajo and Zuni jewelry. Dr. Eric Kaldahl, chief curator, president, and CEO at the Amerind Museum, will present major pieces of the collection and share the unique history of the Vander Wagen family with us. Eric is an archeologist who worked closely with the Tohono O’odham Nation on planning their museum, and at the Amerind Museum, he strives to foster an appreciation of the Native American cultures and their histories.
Join us to hear the uncommon story of a missionary family who celebrated the native people as friends and customers and preserved their most accomplished work.
FSL lectures are free for members and $5 for non-members.

Anne Hillerman
Spring 2025 Author Luncheon with Anne Hillerman
Heather Wolf
The Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries (FSL) are thrilled to announce Anne Hillerman as the speaker at the Spring 2025 Author Luncheon.
After a long career as a nonfiction writer, Anne Hillerman published her first mystery, Spider Woman’s Daughter, in 2013. The story and the series that followed continued the adventures of Navajo law enforcement characters created by her father Tony Hillerman and added many new twists. Each of the books has been a New York Times best seller. Her 10th mystery, and the 29th in the series, Shadow of the Solstice, is set for release in 2025.
Anne is also an executive producer of the television series Dark Winds, based on characters in her books and those by Tony Hillerman. The third season is set to premiere on March 9, 2025.
The SaddleBrooke Libraries offer Anne Hillerman fiction titles in various formats. Check them out and get ready for an engaging afternoon!
The luncheon is on March 13 at 11:30 a.m. in the MountainView clubhouse ballroom. Tickets are $35.
You will want to get your tickets quickly, as we expect the luncheon to be sold out. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Feb. 13 and can be purchased at the SaddleBrooke TWO Administration office.
Please check the Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries website at SBFSL.org for additional information about the luncheon and how to become an FSL member.
