Freethinkers at “Thirdsty Thursday”

Fran Berman

Did you think the April 24 presentation on Cognitive Behavior Therapy was the last opportunity to meet with Freethinkers until October? Well you don’t have to wait several months to mingle with other Freethinkers.

Monthly throughout the year we meet at the Roadrunner Grill for Thirdsty Thursday. While there were only a few of us at the May gathering, the conversation was lively and friendly. Usually the conversation varies widely and is more about our personal lives. This time we talked about the future of SaddleBrooke One and Two. We discussed the challenges SaddleBrooke Two faces with transition just around the corner. Should new buyers pay a year’s association dues to HOA2? The consensus was that this is a good thing and will strengthen the capital improvement fund as it has in SaddleBrooke One. Should HOA2 own the golf course? While this was more complicated, it was pointed out that “if you don’t own it, you don’t control it.” If HOA2 owns it, there are several options that we discussed: keep it a golf course and perhaps have it managed by an outside firm; let it go natural and develop some walking trails and use some of the land for a playground that visiting children can use with adult supervision.

Thirdsty Thursday is a social gathering of SaddleBrooke Freethinkers and guests during happy hour at the Roadrunner Grill. Residents of SaddleBrooke One, SaddleBrooke Two and SaddleBrooke Ranch are invited. We meet new people at every meeting and introduce them to the concept and philosophy of freethinkers.

This social event takes place from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month: Third plus Thirsty = Thirdsty, then add Thursday and you have Thirdsty Thursday. This is an informal two hour mixer for SaddleBrooke Freethinkers to get to know each other better in a casual setting. Come join us to circulate and percolate in the Roadrunner Grill at the SaddleBrooke One Clubhouse, lower level. There is no guest speaker, topics list or formal agenda. And you don’t have to be a member to attend. Regardless of political, religious or sexual preference or any other criterion, all are welcome. Just pop in when you can, leave when you must. For your convenience here are the dates through 2016: June 16, July 21, August 18, September 15, October 20, November 17 and December 15.

Our more structured monthly meetings with a formal presentation are usually held the fourth Sunday morning each month, October through April. As the venue sometimes changes, be sure to check www.sbFreethinkers.wordpress.com for announcements of upcoming events and summaries of past programs.
