The SaddleBrooke Fiber Arts Club has gone through a name change. It’s now the Mixed-Media Fiber Arts Club. Why? you might ask. To better explain to you what we are all about! Most members create using many types of fiber materials and techniques in the same project. Hence, the mixed-media name change.

Who is this club for? It’s for people (beginners through advanced) who are interested in creating objects using fibers. Fibers can be as varied as fabric, yarn, thread, ribbon, and wire. A project might include sewing (hand or machine), embroidery, knitting, crocheting, weaving, collage, surface manipulation, painting, dyeing, and/or surface embellishment. Thus, we do many different things in many ways.

What does the club do? We explore different techniques and project types. It’s a way for everyone to learn and/or enhance their knowledge and experience. We focus on short, simple projects. It’s a way for members to decide if they want to spend more time on larger projects in that genre. And it’s a forum for people to ask questions about projects they are working on. It’s also a social group where members sit and chat while working on projects of their choice.

Where does the club meet? The Topaz Room in the SaddleBrooke TWO Arts & Crafts Center.

When does the club meet? Year-round on most Fridays. The first and third Fridays of the month are technique- and/or project-led demos. The second Friday of the month is a Sit ‘n’ Chat ‘n’ Do Handwork session.

Why does this club exist? Because fiber artists love nothing more than sharing what they know, learning new techniques, and being inspired by seeing what other people are creating.

Does this sound like your tribe? Visitors are always welcome. Come to any session and see what we are about. Visit our table at the SaddleBrooke TWO Activities and Recreation Fair on Feb. 7. If you have any questions, contact Nancy McCluskey-Moore, president, at nmcmoore@yahoo.com.
