SaddleBrooke Freethinkers meetings are held at the SaddleBrooke One clubhouse Vermillion Room on Sunday mornings, with a coffee social at 9:15 a.m. and the program beginning at 9:45 a.m.
We are proud to have Lockwood Carlson, PhD, speak on “Energy Technologies for a Changing World” on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 9:45 a.m.
Energy technologies drive most important global issues, including climate change, economics, security, governance, demographics, and health. Dr. Carlson will discuss what’s real, what’s hype, and what are future possibilities. His focus will be on science, engineering, and economics, rather than ideology and hype. He will also discuss government implications and options going forward.
Dr. Carlson received his PhD in theoretical physics from the University of Wyoming. His thesis research was on electrodynamics of black holes. He retired from 3M Company where he was a corporate scientist and is retired from the faculty in the Management of Technology program at the University of Minnesota. He currently teaches courses in science and technology in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) programs at University of Minnesota and University of Arizona. Dr. Carlson also does consulting work for emerging technologies in nuclear and solar energy, as well as serving on corporate and academic boards.
SaddleBrooke Freethinkers provides a forum for the responsible search for truth and meaning in understanding and solving human problems by applying science and reason. We believe that tolerance, compassion, equity, and civility should characterize interactions among people and organizations. We strive to achieve these goals through meetings, lectures, and discussions.
