Drop-In Tennis Under the Lights: Stay Cool, Have Fun!

Paul Greene

Drop-In Tennis is completing a fun and successful “high season.” The problem is, who wants to play summer tennis when it’s 100 degrees in the shade and there is no shade?

The solution: Drop-In Tennis Under the Lights. Sometime in early May (check with tennisclub@saddlebrooke.org for the day we move from Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. to 6 to 8 p.m.). We play on courts 7 and 8.

For those of you who don’t know about Drop-In Tennis, the rules are pretty simple. Come anytime after the start time and leave whenever you want. No advance notice is required. Come as often or as infrequently as you like.

Players range in age from the 50s to 90s. All men and women are welcome. The skill (or lack thereof) has a wide range, and everyone can participate without feeling embarrassed.

Some random comments from new participants might allay any concerns you might have: “Wow, this is really fun,” “Everyone is so welcoming,” “I like the flexible schedule,” “Who brought the cookies?” “What role did Ben Skelton play in Beetlejuice?”

Try us out! You’ll come back for more Drop-In Tennis Under the Lights and will want to be part of the group when we go back to the daytime schedule in the fall.
