Theme: Showers and Food Transform a Community
SaddleBrooke residents are invited to attend the twentieth anniversary of the Cross Street Community at South Side Presbyterian Church on March 25.
The Showers Program history:
The Cross Street Community’s shower program evolved over the years from the sanctuary days with a shower that was in a shed on the south side of the church. A garden hose was used to provide the showers in the late 1980s. In the beginning coffee and sandwiches were served. Church members would go to the local parks and ask people if they would like to come to the church for a shower. The resulting laundry was taken home and washed by church members. Subsequently, a shower and bathroom facility was built on the west side of the church. Later, a laundry area and bathroom was added. Today, meals with both hot and cold foods are provided twice a week for those in need in the Tucson area. Clean used and new clothing can be acquired, thanks to local donations.
Please join us on Saturday, March 25 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the South Side Presbyterian Church, as the achievements of the Cross Street Community are acknowledged. The celebration will have a presentation from Michael McDonald, Chief Executive Officer of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. There will be entertainment from The Mariachi Aztlan de Pueblo from Pueblo High School and the Tucson High School Steel Band. Food will also be served in a casual and welcoming environment. The South Side Presbyterian Church is located at 317 West 23rd Street in Tucson.
Learn about the long and compassionate commitment the Cross Street Community has had to our neighbors in need and what is needed to keep it thriving. If you are unable to attend but would like to contribute, donations can be made to the South Side Presbyterian Church for the Cross Street Community.
