The Catalina Mountain Satellite Chapter (CMSC) of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) held its February meeting on Feb. 20. The meeting began with a short business session presided over by Col. Bill Nagy, president, during which members were updated on the chapter’s current and future activities.
The speaker for the meeting was Cdr. Ross “Rusty” Orvik, USN (Retired). Cdr. Orvik received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, San Diego, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Santa Clara University. His active-duty assignments included two deployments to the Western Pacific aboard the USS San Francisco (SSN 711). The USS San Francisco is a Los Angeles Class fast attack nuclear submarine commissioned in April 1981.
Rusty spoke concerning his position as the Southern Area Employer Outreach Director for Arizona ESGR. ESGR is the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Office, which is a Department of Defense organization dedicated to promoting a culture in which all American employers support and value the military service of their employees who also serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
The March meeting will be held in the afternoon of Saturday, March 20, on the patio at the SaddleBrooke One Tennis Center. The exact time will depend on the COVID-19 immunization schedule that day for the SaddleBrooke Community. The Tennis Center location provides an open-air venue, which meets current COVID-19 safety guidelines. With the availability of sun screening and overhead fans, the patio is a perfect place to meet for the attendees. Masks and social distancing guidelines are to be followed. No food or drink will be available, although participants may bring their own water bottle or cup to use with the ice and water available at the Tennis Center.
All members and non-members interested in attending the next meeting need to contact Col. Kurt McMillan at [email protected] or by phone at 520-270-5856, or Col. Bill Nagy at [email protected] or by phone at 520-355-5064. Wives are always welcome. Seating is limited to the first 40 members and guests who confirm their attendance.
